Gritty theatre & Old Joint Stock are presenting
by Anna Jordan
Midlands premiere of this Bruntwood award winning play. Until now only seen in Manchester and at the Royal Court Upstairs in the UK.
we are looking to cast the following roles:
BOBBIE: playing age young teenager (14+). Described as ‘feral, unaware of any boundaries or social conventions’. The plot requires him to ‘moon’.
MAGGIE playing age 36. Described as ‘diabetic, scrawny, a bad mum’.
The original production was set in Feltham in London. The playwright has granted us permission to re-locate the drama to the outskirts of Birmingham. The characters of Bobbie and Maggie will therefore speak with a Midlands accent.
Auditions will take place at the Old Joint Stock theatre in Birmingham on the evening of March 5th, and all day on Tuesday March 6th. Any callbacks are planned for Friday March 9th.
This is a profit share production.
There will be an initial read-through on the evening of March 16th. Rehearsals commence on Monday March 19th. This is a 10 week, part-time rehearsal period, as we are aware that many actors need to earn a living, so every effort will be made to make allowances for other work commitments. Rehearsals will normally be afternoons and evenings.
Most rehearsals will take place at the Old Joint Stock Theatre, although due to scheduling some will take place elsewhere in and around Birmingham. In accordance with Gritty Theatre’s policy of working with Midlands born (or Midlands based) actors (please refer to social media and our website www.grittytheatre.co.uk for details of our work to date and our mission statement), we will give preference to such individuals. A local base will be necessary, as accommodation unfortunately cannot be provided.
Final tech rehearsals.
These are currently scheduled for 27th and 29th May.
3 evening performances the Old Joint Stock Theatre in Birmingham. May 29th, 30th and June 1st 2018.
1 evening performances in at the Bunker theatre in London. Monday June 4th 2018 (transportation provided).
Due to critical and audience response, other Gritty productions have had, and continue to have, an afterlife after the initial run. It is our intention to fully exploit this with ‘Yen’. It is an exciting time for the Performing Arts in Birmingham and we will be part of its future.
